Session Type: Symposium
In recognition of the reality that racial disparities are deeply intertwined with mental health, this session will emphasize the need for scholarly research on the pivotal role that mental well-being plays in achieving genuine racial equity. By examining how racial equity negatively or positively shapes mental health, educational researchers can better understand the potential long-term efficacy of racial equity efforts. This session will create space to envision a more holistic approach that amalgamates mental health insights with racial equity studies, toward developing targeted, empathetic, and sustainable solutions. Our call to action is to bolster racial inequity agendas through engagement of knowledge and action around mental health among historically marginalized students.
