The objective of this study was to highlight the perspective of martial art (MA)
instructors regarding the key factors of co-developing a Tactical Games approach for
children within a social learning space (SLS). Five instructors and two collaborators
from a large national-level social services organization in Brazil participated in the
study, engaging in online and in-person meetings, professional development sessions
and weekly debriefs with the researcher facilitator of the SLS. Using the Tenants of the
Value Creation framework, nine qualitative data sources were analyzed using thematic
coding. The two themes discussed explain: (a) ways we negotiated resistance to achieve
change and (b) dialogue found as the key factor for a successful SLS.
