Abstract

In this paper, the authors offer an analysis of mentoring pedagogical illustrations through narrative inquiry. These pedagogical illustrations highlight the need to interrogate taken for granted assumptions about doctoral education and particularly doctoral writing practices. The narrative approach created a liberatory and humanizing experience that allowed for intentionality on emotional safety for doctoral students while developing their scholarly writing practices.
