Session Type: Symposium
This panel brings needed attention to the study of youth voice in and out of schools. Panelists take an asset-based and qualitative approach to center youth’s lived experiences and bodies of knowledge as they serve as entry points toward understanding what practices and policies are needed to be accountable to their needs and desires. While research documents the impact of empowering youth, school administrators, teachers, and youth workers often struggle to create ways to be responsive to their needs. The four papers bring different analytical frames to highlight the constraints, tensions, and possibilities for what it means to empower youth and cultivate dynamic adult-youth relationships.
