Jun Zi in America: A Review of Ruism's Impact on the Asian American Educational Experience

Thu, April 24, 8:00 to 9:30am MDT (8:00 to 9:30am MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Four Seasons Ballroom 1

Abstract

This systematic review examines how Ruism influences the educational experiences of Asian American populations. Nineteen reports were identified from ERIC, Education Source, Sociological Abstracts, APA PsychInfo, and Ethnic Newswatch, including research articles, book chapters, reviews, and reports focused on Ruism in education. The review found that current research predominantly addresses shame and filial piety, with a specific focus on first-generation Chinese American students. The study argues for a more nuanced exploration of Ruism, advocating for research that includes a broader range of Ruist tenets and encompasses more ethnically and generationally diverse populations.
