This paper describes the experience of methodological development of a quantitative researcher with positivist background entering a research-practice partnership with a music teacher and revising views of the quantitative research process and perspective. A portion of the paper is one author’s personal narrative perspective, with the rest making connections to theory and research. The research-practice partnership focus was whether participation in music ensembles with focus on leadership training can influence sense of school belongingness and well-being of high school students. This paper includes a description of partnership development and methodological implications based in theory. Throughout, the research perspective became more interpretive and person-centered, making it more aligned with a hermeneutic perspective than a positivist one.
