Exploring Elementary Preservice Teachers’ Education Equity Mindsets Captured in a Digital Simulation

Fri, April 25, 1:30 to 3:00pm MDT (1:30 to 3:00pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Meeting Room Level, Room 709

Abstract

This study examines elementary preservice teachers’ education equity mindsets based on their responses to a digital simulation housed on MITs Teacher Moments’ open-access platform, using a multi-case-study approach. Researchers coded responses of 12 PSTs selected randomly from a larger pool of participants using nine attributes of education equity mindset (Nadelson et al., 2022). A multi-case study analysis was used to generate the cross- and multi-case analyses. The main findings include marked variation in the frequency and range of education equity mindset attributes among participants, and cases of two preservice teachers whose responses expressed the most and least number of attributes are described. The findings have implications for designing more interactive digital simulations to support instructional and research purposes.
