Feedback From 20,000 Students on Their Learning Conditions in Underresourced Schools Across the Country

Sat, April 26, 1:30 to 3:00pm MDT (1:30 to 3:00pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Meeting Room Level, Room 304

Abstract

The pandemic had a devastating impact on students’ social, emotional, and academic well-being. Recovery will be decelerated if schooling is not redesigned with significant input from students. The Cultivate System is a year-long professional development system for teachers that includes a twice-yearly student experience survey for students in grades 5-12. The survey gives educators insight into students’ experiences in their classroom by focusing on the learning conditions that most impact student development. This study is the first to report nationwide results from the Cultivate survey on student perceptions of their learning experiences, learning mindsets, learning strategies and motivation. Data was collected from over 20,000 students, primarily students of color, across 140 districts and nearly 250 - primarily Title I -schools.
