Abstract

In today’s increasingly diverse educational landscape, the demand for effective bilingual education has never been greater. Therefore, it is essential that bilingual teachers are adequately prepared to serve bilingual learners. The sustained intellectual production of knowledge in bilingual teacher education to-date evidences the evolution and consolidation of a vibrant and expanding field of advocacy, research, and practice aimed at preparing effective bilingual teacher leaders. In this paper, we present the results of an exploratory thematic review of the literature in bilingual teacher education research-scholarship (2000-2024) and assess the state of the art of the field as we envision new possibilities for bilingual teacher education for 21st century bilingual schools and societies.
