Abstract

The shifting demographic landscape of student populations and the rise of social movements have sparked changes in higher education. However, there is a dearth of research addressing the experiences and navigations of faculty of color in academia. To address this gap, the systemic review study reviews the existing literature from 2010-2024 to identify the experiences of faculty of color. The findings demonstrate that faculty navigate complex interactions with students from different backgrounds. Faculty of color also encounter mistreatment, racial dynamics, and resilience in academia. The findings shed light on systemic barriers, advocate for institutional and community support to faculty of color, and provide direction intended to break the cycle of inequality.
