This study investigates the impact of scenic images on emotional activation during classical Chinese poetry learning, employing Event-Related Potentials (ERP). Eighteen non-literature major students participated in experiments comprehending poetry with and without relevant images. Results indicated that the combination of scenic images with poetry significantly enhanced emotional experience. ERP data revealed earlier emotional processing in early posterior negativity (EPN) and stronger activation in P200 peak values and brain regions associated with emotion regulation and control when poetry was paired with corresponding images. These findings suggest that using scenic images in classical poetry teaching can foster deeper emotional connections. This approach offers valuable insights for enhancing poetry education through scenery-emotion relationship.
