Duoethnography is a dialogic research method grounded in social justice where, guided by a selected artifact, two participants engage in critical dialogue (Sawyer & Norris, 2013). Through the frameworks of unlearning (Kumashiro, 2000), restorying (Thomas and Storniauolo, 2016), and interest convergence (Bell, 1980) this paper illustrates the transformative nature of duoethnography. Specifically, we describe how our initial understanding of duoethnography as a rigorous research method to make meaning of our experiences as women of color has evolved into viewing duoethnography as a way of being in white academia. We argue that rather than creating counterspaces outside of the academy, duoethnography offers a way to reposition our own ways of being within the traditional confines of the academy.
