Abstract

This study informs the field of education of the importance of providing a wide variety of extracurricular activities for students and its effect on the development of students’ community leadership. Data was collected from college students (N = 705) and analyzed using quantitative methodology. Results indicate that students with high involvement levels demonstrated relatively high citizenship in leadership outcomes. Also, students’ self-perception of leadership skills was the most significant predictor of community values of leadership development outcomes. This study highlights the need for higher education institutions to encourage student participation in group activities to enhance community leadership that advances positive social change.
