Abstract

Educational scholars and practitioners have been concerned with supporting immigrant students, as continued waves of immigration raise pressing questions about approaches and pedagogy in an increasingly migrant-ized school setting. Immigration trends have led to an increase in immigrant students attending schools across the country, raising questions around how to support immigrant students (Arar, 2019). And while significant strides have been made (Garcia and Kleifgen, 2018), glaring disparities remain (Gándara & Ee 2022). Educational researchers have long studied approaches to education of immigrant students, highlighting the importance of holistically supporting immigrant youth as they navigate their education. This paper explores the concept of critical political consciousness as an avenue of support for immigrant youth, and particularly Newcomer youth (McWhirter, 2021).
