This scholarship centers social justice teaching, research, and policy that sustains and supports Black leadership. Our paper explores the linguistic challenges, vulnerability, and successes of Black faculty who hold leadership positions in higher education. We base our findings on interviews with Black faculty leaders who study the language of leadership as a justice issue. We then blend key findings from their interviews to understand how they have navigated their leadership positions and their daily lives. We conclude with a vision for Black language leadership. Our work gives a leadership pathway for Black faculty and shows how to specify leadership pathways across disciplines with a focus on linguistic and cultural authenticity.
