Abstract

This study used an experimental design with randomized control trials to explore the effects of a mobile technology intervention on the motivation, concentration, and time management of first-year residential undergraduate students. The treatment group received an intervention using Google Calendar and the Learning and Study Strategies Inventory (LASSI), 3rd edition was used as a pretest and posttest with quantitative analysis methods. Significant differences were not detected between the control and treatment groups over time, and frequency of use of Google Calendar was not found to significantly predict changes in motivation, concentration, or time management. However, results indicated the majority of students perceived a mobile app as helpful and that frequent use during the study was indicative of future use.
