Not Applicable for this Symposium Session Format

Thu, April 24, 5:25 to 6:55pm MDT (5:25 to 6:55pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Meeting Room Level, Room 105

Abstract

We are opting for a symposium that is an "innovative format (e.g., town meetings)" where we will "present [and discuss] alternative solutions, interpretations, [and] contrasting points of view on a specified subject or in relation to a common theme [specifically Culturally Responsive Classroom Management]."

We are not proposing a "symposia... [that uses] a panel discussion format targeted at a clearly delineated issue or idea [where] panel members are expected to prepare a commentary paper addressing central questions regarding the issue under consideration." This is why we have not papers in addition to the systematic scoping review.

With the innovative symposium format we aim to "encourage engagement with its topic, [that] enriches the experience of attendees through active discussion, and promotes deeper understanding by all (including presenters). A large portion of the session is devoted to activities such as a... discussion among the presenters and [attendees], questions and discussion among all those present at the session, [and] small-group interaction."

We will "have a chair willing to maintain time limits on speakers and skilled in facilitating discussion."

We are opting for this format because it may be the remedy to persistent challenges in the CRCM research. We believe this discussion that operates as a "town meeting" will be enrich with members of the classroom management SIG, many of whom have published the articles included in the systematic scoping review we included.
