Thu, April 24, 1:45 to 3:15pm MDT (1:45 to 3:15pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Four Seasons Ballroom 1

Abstract

This qualitative study explores teachers' perspectives on parent-teacher communication surrounding children's literacy development, aiming to identify the need for effective strategies and best practices for engaging with diverse families. It highlights barriers such as language differences, lack of trust, teacher biases, and inadequate professional development. The research identifies three themes: enhancing communication with technology, perceived communication barriers, and connecting school and home literacy cultures. The findings emphasize the need for professional development and inclusive practices to bridge literacy divides and foster equitable educational environments.
