Sat, April 26, 3:20 to 4:50pm MDT (3:20 to 4:50pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Exhibit Hall Level, Exhibit Hall F - Poster Session

Abstract

Teacher Stories is a mixed-methods national study examining teachers' viewpoints on whether to remain or leave the profession in a post-pandemic system. The study applied Social Exchange Theory to understand the benefits and costs of teaching. PK-12th grade teachers (N=1213) participated in a survey with both quantitative and open-ended questions concerning their reasons for remaining or leaving the profession. Additionally, focus groups and interviews followed to better understand the complex issues teachers are facing in choosing to remain or leave the profession. Findings found underlying stories to historically cited factors impacting retention, which can lead to unique solutions for districts.
