Abstract

This paper explores alternative qualitative methods as a part of critical research for students classified with disabilities (SCWD). Alternatives to traditional qualitative research, such as photovoice, walking interviews, art and creative workshops, digital and visual methods, diaries, and digital storytelling, have been employed in various studies and mostly in countries other than the United States. However, only a few researchers have utilized alternative methods with SCWD in the United States to explore their positions of marginalization and the power dynamics with the researcher. This paper provides several alternative qualitative methods, examples, and possibilities for their usage with SCWD toward social justice and emancipation.
