In Event: Nurturing Faculty Success and Resilience: Mentorship, Identity, and Well-Being in Academia
Through an action research approach guided by Social Cognitive Career Theory, the Striving Towards Thriving in Early Careers (STTEC) aims to understand faculty experiences, implement targeted interventions, and evaluate these to develop a model intervention for achieving a successful 4th-year appraisal and eventual tenure. Focus areas include addressing racial power dynamics, departmental climate, and strategies for success in research, teaching, and service. Preliminary findings emphasize the significance of formal mentorship and informal networks. The project aligns with the University’s goal of becoming a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) and enhances scholarly understanding of effective support systems for diverse faculty, improving retention and promotion rates.
