Session Type: Symposium
This session is an exploration of racial justice in teacher education, its limitations and constraints, possibilities and power. We present research that: 1) Explores the role of trust in teacher education preparation centered on racial equity; 2) Problematizes the activism necessary to live into a vision to advance racial equity in teacher preparation; 3) Examines anti-Blackness in a teacher education program; and 4); Interrogates the possibilities of enacting a critical race praxis through a racial justice institute. We approach racial justice in intersectional ways to apprehend the necessity of critical theories of race and racism as central to teacher education. Taken together, we offer insights for teacher educators, researchers, and programs to equip all future teachers, especially teachers of Color.
