Session Type: Symposium
The unjust, racialized resegregation (overrepresentation) of Students of Color in the United States’ special education system remains persistent and pervasive. Further entrenching this injustice is quantitative research, which often relies on culturally deficit and eugenics-based rationales. These concerns motivated us to conceptualize an investigation, funded by the Spencer Foundation in 2024, in collaboration with the Delaware Department of Education. This research symposium—a collection of Critical Race Counterstories—demonstrates how QuantCrit, methodologically, informs changes to advance social and racial justice for Delaware communities. We present evidence of (a) resegregation in special education and (b) anti-racist teaching practices, policies, and regulations to disrupt it.
