Advancing Methods, Theories, and Conceptualizations of Infrastructuring in the Learning Sciences

Sat, April 26, 9:50 to 11:20am MDT (9:50 to 11:20am MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Terrace Level, Bluebird Ballroom Room 2A

Session Type: Structured Poster Session

Abstract

Driven by long standing commitments around both relevance to practice and creating real world impacts, in the last decade the Learning Sciences has been engaged in what Roy Pea has referred to as its “infrastructuring turn” - a greater focus on the often taken for granted conditions that learning designs and environments are situated in. These infrastructural conditions—such as organizational learning routines, policy sensemaking processes, sociotechnical data systems, and cross-setting partnerships —deeply mediate the implementation of learning designs, implicating issues of scalability, equitable participation, and ownership. This session presents a range of studies and initiatives exploring methodological, theoretical, and contextual variations in infrastructuring efforts within the learning sciences, as well as opportunities and tensions in advancing equity and justice through infrastructuring.
