Cultivating Resilience During Challenging Times: Stories of Underrepresented and Marginalized Leaders

Sun, April 27, 11:40am to 1:10pm MDT (11:40am to 1:10pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Meeting Room Level, Room 404

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

Research continues to highlight the important role education leaders have in educational outcomes. Yet, ample room remains to understand how leaders cultivate resilience and wellbeing. This symposium reveals how resilience is developed whilst cultivating the wellbeing of teachers and leaders within a school community. The authors excavate and examine the experiences of leaders from four different projects in California, reflecting their stories of resilience during challenging times. The studies span quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methodologies, offering opportunities to reflect critically on the theme of AERA 2025 “Research, Remedy, and Repair: Toward Just Education Renewal” by offering pathways to repair from within the experiences of leaders that remain marginalized by long standing systemic and structural forces within the national education endeavor.
