Sat, April 26, 11:40am to 1:10pm MDT (11:40am to 1:10pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Meeting Room Level, Room 102

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

This symposium will be utilizing the format of Critical Race Feminista Methodologies to propose an East Coast Research Apprenticeship Course (EC-RAC). The three papers for the symposium focus on: 1) Using platicas to share the origin, development and impact of the West Coast Research Apprenticeship Course (WC-RAC), a unique space of belonging, developed by Solorzano at UCLA, 2) Leveraging testimonios from three mid-career Latina education researchers highlighting the importance and dearth of affinity spaces supporting their needs on the East Coast, and 3) Platicas y testimonios during a Town Hall led by founding RAC scholars, a senior EC mentor, and the next generation EC-RAC cohort. Ideas for the new EC-RAC will also engage the audience to co-create its initial framework.
