Distinguished Scholars' Address at the Research in Reading and Literacy (SIG 11) Business Meeting. Two featured speakers: Dr. Steve Graham, Arizona State University and Dr. James Kim, Harvard University, Graduate School of Education. Dr. Graham’s address, "Evidence-Based Practice for Teaching Writing" will present 11 evidence-based practices for teaching writing to students ages 5 to 18 based on findings from nearly 1,000 investigations; summarized in five meta-analyses of quasi- and true-experiments and one meta-synthesis of qualitative studies. Dr. Kim’s address, "Rethinking the Reading Crisis: Why Far Transfer Should be the Gold Standard of Literacy Intervention Research” will present findings from a 10-year research-practice partnership focused on improving third grade reading comprehension outcomes in a large metropolitan school district.
