Session Type: Invited Speaker Session
This session engages in a discussion that delves into the intersecting and diverging educational histories of Native and Black communities across the United States and Canada. This panel aims to illuminate the interconnected experiences of these groups, exploring how complex historical contexts, policies, and cultural dynamics have shaped their educational journeys. This session will explore themes and topics including the legacies of colonialism and white supremacy, movements of resistance and sovereignty, contemporary policy, and current challenges. Using recent historical research as a guide, this discussion emphasizes the plurality of possibilities to remedy, repair, and restore education as an international human right.
