Session Type: Invited Speaker Session
The emergence of AI technologies has posed radical changes to how schools and
school districts function. Given the recent applications and adoption of AI technologies, the
research base is early in its development. Drawing on interdisciplinary perspectives, this session
will consider how AI is being used, what we know about the affordances and limitations of this
use, and what role research can play in considerations about AI use and implementation, and
what priority areas for research are going forward. How can researchers evaluate the short- and
long-term impacts of AI on equity, student learning, and teacher roles? In addition, the session
will explore the philosophical, societal, and ethical dimensions that the expanded use of AI
technologies in education
