Abstract

Reading achievement continues to decline; it is essential to identify and implement evidence-based programs and interventions to accelerate learning and close critical gaps. Recent emphasis on the science-of-reading provide further impetus. Prior efficacy studies have shown positive impacts of Enhanced Core Reading Instruction (ECRI), a comprehensive approach to early reading instruction and intervention, on broad measures of students’ reading outcomes. We will present three years of results of a rigorous randomized controlled trial examining the effectiveness of ECRI under routine implementation conditions on the foundational reading skills of first-grade students with or at risk for reading disabilities.
