Mixed methods researchers need tools for planning and demonstrating integration. Mixed methods joint displays have proven useful for representing mixed methods findings, and for using as an analytic tool as in the case of joint display analysis. A relatively unknown application for joint displays is the use for integrated data collection. A joint display for data collection links the qualitative and the quantitative data collection questions, scales, and items. Joint displays of integrated data collection can be used both as a planning tool and as a structure for representing how integration occurred during the data collection process. Further, the structure provides a template for joint display analysis. We will provide examples from three core mixed methods designs.
