Reading and Composing (Praxis) Experiences: Expanding Educational Futures Through Narrative Self-Study

Sat, April 23, 9:45 to 11:15am PDT (9:45 to 11:15am PDT), SIG Virtual Rooms, SIG-Self-Study of Teacher Education Practices Virtual Roundtable Session Room

Abstract

Through narrative self-study, we sought to identify tensions and turning points related to our exploration of praxis. Together we wondered, how does exploring our learning help us to better understand and/or contribute to generating and sharing knowledge in relation to advancing equity and social justice? Textualizing and analyzing our experiences, we engaged in metacognitive thinking and narratively placed events within larger contexts of our life and learning experiences. Distanced from events, we inquired into them from new positionalities, perspectives, and purposes that created spaces to foreground issues of equity and take action in our present practice settings. Transformational learning is learning that shifts-- actions, understandings, relationships, identity and that fosters courage to (continue to) transform and expand educational futures.
