Only a few studies examine how faculty can use their privilege to support marginalized faculty and dismantle inequitable work environments within academia. A theory-based, quantitative, validated, parsimonious measure to assess the types of faculty allyship behaviors has not yet been developed. In this paper we describe the development of and validation procedures for the Faculty Allyship Behaviors Scale using critical quantitative scholarship. The scale is framed by Solorzano and Delgado Bernal’s (2001) typology of student resistance, which we have adapted to measure behaviors associated with conformist and transformative faculty allyship. We hope that this project adds to the literature on how White faculty can provide support for their colleagues who experience marginalization in academia.
