Building Pedagogies of Undergraduate Teacher Education for Equity and Justice

Today, more state education systems are expanding undergraduate teacher education to address teacher shortages, amidst simultaneous calls to rethink teacher preparation towards justice and equity for increasingly diverse student bodies. This paper, situated at the intersection of these two calls, details the preliminary phase of a larger project to build "pedagogies of undergraduate teacher education" into three recently-formed undergraduate programs in one university. In this initial phase, six faculty members develop a survey with opportunities for undergraduate students to reflect on themselves as learners, and envision their goals as future educators. Here, we outline the development of these inquiries with students, and their initial insights towards their future pedagogical practice.
