This qualitative study provides an understanding of the influence collegial relationships have on the professional socialization experiences of pre-tenure Black women faculty. Critical Race Feminism (CRF) and the Newcomer Adjustment during Organizational Socialization Model (NAOSM) were used as the conceptual frame and a thematic analysis was employed. Three themes were interpreted from the data: Navigating with Internal Knowing’s and External Understandings, Representation Matters and Enriches Experiences, and Stewardship Shapes Careers. Implications of this study include intentionally and diligently reconstructing the cultural ethos at the departments level, faculty taking on the responsibility of their role as stewards of the professoriate, clearly defining the role and responsibilities of department chairs, and developing policies that support long-term faculty diversity strategic plans.
