Grounded in critical feminist and literacy theories, the proposed paper reports on a qualitative study of 22 Latina mothers and the ways in which they participated and supported their children’s tele-education during COVID-19. Thematic analysis of focus group transcripts suggest that Latina mothers developed and enacted their literacies of teaching and learning, which challenge dominant notions of Latino families’ involvement in formal schooling. Literacies of teaching and learning include understanding their child and themselves as learners, and understanding teaching and learning as dynamic, complex, relational, and situated in larger social contexts. The study’s findings also reframe connections between families and schools as equitable partnerships.
