Abstract

This study examined the factor structure, validity and reliability of the Design Thinking Scale (DTS; Royalty et al., 2014) with preservice teachers. The DTS was developed to assess the outcome of teaching design thinking to individuals from non-design fields. Study 1 established a high internal consistency of the DTS and explored its factor structure (N = 191). A two-factor solution identified Design Practices and Creativity Agency dimensions of Design Thinking. The two-factor solution was then supported by a confirmatory factor analysis in Study 2 (N = 172). Additionally, Study II established (a) convergent validity of the DTS with other measures of innovation and creativity and (b) discriminant validity by correlating Design Thinking with Social Desirability scores (Crowne & Marlowe, 1960).
