Validation of a Situational Judgment Test to Assess Affective Domain Elements in Pharmacy Students

Abstract

The situational judgement test (SJT) is a methodology for assessing non-clinical professional attributes, designed to assess judgement in situations likely to be encountered in practice. The purpose of this study was to present validity evidence of an SJT developed to measure affective domain skills. This study examined data collected from 559 students enrolled in Doctor of Pharmacy programs from three U.S. universities. The results of this study suggest the SJT instrument may be a promising tool to assess student progression in the affective domain skills. The SJT can be a useful tool as part of a comprehensive assessment plan and offers several benefits since it is efficient and less resource-intensive than other measures.
