Pivoting as a Methodological Stance: Strategies for Undermining the Arsenal of Racial Knowledge

Abstract

While the racial character of knowledge systems has become more explicit, it is important to consider how the analytics of raciality, a social scientific apparatus that produces racial subjugation, is already configured and entangled within sociopolitical systems. Following the work of Denise Ferreira da Silva, this paper argues that attention to raciality requires a different set of critical strategies in troubling “racially just” approaches to education, asking more of our collective aims to unsettle colonial and racial logics within and outside of k-12 education and educational research. The potential for subverting a colonial gaze on student feedback is also discussed.
