Blocking White Supremacy Through Expansive Policy: Envisioning More Liberatory Family School Partnerships

Thu, April 21, 8:00 to 9:30am PDT (8:00 to 9:30am PDT), Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina, Floor: North Building, Lobby Level, Rancho Santa Fe 1

Abstract

Drawing from my critical race analysis of family-school partnerships in a liberal public school district, I point to ways school communities and policy-makers can work towards racial justice by reckoning with the reality of racism and white supremacy in school and seeking Liberatory Family-School Partnerships (LFSP). LFSP includes joining families in recognizing and resisting racism in and out of school; untethering education quality from individual parents' engagement and nurturing collective educational justice; and blocking the ways white supremacy operates at school with policies that include expansive visions of equality.
