(Re)Considering Homeroom as a Spiritual Milieu for a Curriculum of Authenticity: A Narrative Self-Study

Abstract

This narrative self-study explores a teacher’s lived curriculum within a secondary school homeroom in South Korea. The study examines storied data culled from annals and chronicles, field notes in memory boxes, and daily journals as well as formal and informal curriculum documents of the teacher’s practice of authenticity in teaching. The research intent was to (re)consider the value of homeroom, particularly in secondary education, by tracing the personal trajectory of coming to see homeroom as a spiritual milieu at which the three other curriculum commonplaces are brought into authentic relationships. The researcher approaches each curriculum commonplace from the intersected perspectives between milieu and three other commonplaces and arrives at the understanding of yet-discovered synergies of the four curriculum components.
