Thu, October 31, 1:45 to 3:15pm, Hyatt Regency, Floor: 3, Douglass

Abstract

This individual paper addresses the AERA conference question: “How do we work against reproducing colonialist logics, neoliberal ideologies, and supremist ideals in our community building and social justice work?” The purpose of this paper is to address the AESA conference question by examining the Polynesian Panthers of Aotearoa and their connection to the US Black Power movement(s) in order to demonstrate the interconnectedness of social movements outside of socially constructed borders of place and space, especially in the ways educators often times place superficial geographical and social borders.
