This literature review plans to address what is happening to educators across the state of Indiana. Through examining the current state of Indiana’s education and related statistics, I will show how we have continued to devalue our public-school teachers. I will show that not only are we de-valuing them and their work, but we are also not compensating them well, not trusting them as professionals, and we are losing teachers at a faster rate than the surrounding states. And, through conversing with the works of Pinar (1995), McLaren (1993), Apple (2000), and Darling-Hammond (2010), I hope to show a way that we can have an alternate future—one where teachers are respected and affirmed.
