Yale University
Vice-President, American Academy for Jewish Research
This is a proposal for two sessions that respond to the call: "… as part of our 50th year celebration, a special anniversary division called “50 and Forward” … a session that reflects on the evolution and structure of our professional organization and its place within the fields that constitute it."
As part of its Centenary celebration, the American Academy for Jewish Research is undertaking an intellectual history of the organization through an evaluation of the contributions of the Proceedings of the AAJR to various fields of Jewish Studies scholarship. One session is devoted to the ancient and medieval periods, the other to the early modern and modern periods. These sessions contribute to an assessment of the evolution of the fields served by AJS through the lens of the PAAJR.
Session Two Chair: Todd Endelman (U. of Michigan) Early Modern: Elisheva Carlebach (Columbia) Modern: John Efron (U. of California-Berkeley) Pinkasim: Gershon Hundert (McGill)
