Thinking and Writing Across the Jewish-Arab Divide

Abstract

This session brings together three papers that consider figures who worked or wrote across the Jewish-Arab or Israeli-Palestinian divide. Amelia Mukamel Glaser will present on Yiddish poets who reflected on the 1929 violence in Palestine as it affected both Jews and Arabs. Harriet Feinberg discusses a German Jewish woman in Massachusetts who organized Jewish-Arab coexistence work in Israel during the 1970s and 1980s. Vered Weiss will speak about the ongoing contemporary literary and personal exchange between writers Etgar Keret and Sayed Kashua.
