Session Submission Type: Workshop
Amber Kanner Clooney (Yiddish Book Center) and Lyudmila Sholokhova (New York Public Library) will present a live demo of the Universal Yiddish Library, a website that combines the Yiddish book collections of 4 institutions: Yiddish Book Center, New York Public Library, YIVO Institute for Jewish Research, and National Library of Israel. The Universal Yiddish Library will allow users to search more than 60,000 records for Yiddish Books, with nearly 20,000 of those titles digitized and available with a full-text search via our Yiddish OCR.
We'll also look at other resources provided by the Yiddish Book Center and New York Public Library, including the Yiddish Book Center's full-text search website, and the Yiddish Book Center and New York Public Library digital collections. We will explore several different use cases for the related but separate resources, and provide some background and information on future development for these digital humanities projects. We'll conduct a live research session and invite attendees to bring their research topics and see what we can discover together. We also welcome feedback on these resources, which are still currently in development.
