Welcome
ANNIE 2008 will be held November 9-12, 2008 at the Hilton St. Louis at the Ballpark in beautiful downtown St. Louis, Missouri, USA. This will be the eighteenth international gathering of researchers interested in Intelligent Systems Design using neural networks, fuzzy logic, evolutionary computation, swarm intelligence, and complex systems. Each of the previous conferences were published by ASME as hardbound books in seventeen volumes. The last volume, edited by Dagli, et.al, was titled: Smart Systems Engineering: Computational Intelligence in Architecting Complex Engineering Systems.

ANNIE 2008 will cover the theory of Computational Intelligence and Systems Engineering techniques, namely neural networks, fuzzy logic, evolutionary computation swarm intelligence, and complex systems. Presentations dealing with the applications of these technologies are encouraged in the areas of Bio-Informatics, Data Mining, Evolutionary Computation, Financial Engineering, Fuzzy Systems, Infrastructure Systems, Smart Engineering Systems, and Systems Engineering & Architecting.

The Organizing Committee will be seeking to invite distinguished researchers from industry, government, and academia as keynote speakers and tutorial presenters. If you would like to volunteer or have a suggestion of someone that you would like to hear from, please contact the ANNIE Conference Chair or the ANNIE office.

Like the previous conferences, all papers will be reviewed by two senior researchers in the field to assure a high-quality submission. These reviews are based on full papers. A six page condensed version of the accepted paper will be published as part of the conference proceedings in a hardbound book.
