The group identification choices of Asian Americans -- either pan-ethnically or by ethnic/ethnic-American group -- is one of the central and still incompletely understood aspects of Asian American politics. This paper proposes to deepen our understanding by examining the contours of identification and the influence of these choices on both policy preferences and political participation. The paper hones in on disaggregating analysis of these relationships by immigrant generation and national origin groups.
