What Can Political Theorists Tell Us About the Trump Presidency?

Sat, September 1, 10:00 to 11:30am, Hynes, 306

Session Submission Type: Roundtable

Session Description

Donald Trump’s presidency marks a watershed moment in American history. The forty-fifth occupant of the White House has already reshaped political institutions, norms, and discourse in fundamental ways. Nevertheless, Trump’s rise to power was largely unforeseen and unpredicted by political scientists. How should we understand the Trump phenomenon’s causes and significance? What are its consequences for the United States, and for the global community? This panel brings together a number of leading political theorists who have written recently on such themes to consider what Trump’s presidency says about America, and what ought to be done in response to it.
