Intra-Party Agenda Setting in Advanced Industrialized Democracies

Sat, September 12, 10:00 to 11:30am MDT (10:00 to 11:30am MDT), TBA

Session Submission Type: Full Paper Panel

Session Description

How do institutional structures influence the agenda and support for the agenda? Specifically how do institutions, such as the electoral system, devolved powers, and committee structures, alter the formation of a party’s agenda? Departing from large amounts of excellent work in inter-party agenda setting, this panel turns its focus within the party. This session investigates intra-party dynamics to understand how party agenda setting changes based on a variety of factors using text analysis and original data sources, at both the regional and national levels, comparatively and with single case studies of advanced industrial democracies. This panel effectively represents the diversity of the discipline by combining a range of junior scholars to senior faculty.
